every time i log onto a server that is 1.9, minecraft instantly crashes

like Hypixel which supports both 1.8 and 1.9, if i log in on 1.8 it works fine, but if i log in on 1.9 it crashes, I've tried on multiple servers and every time it crashes the second i log in
