Server timeout on 1.9 Client, but not 1.8.9 client

I can connect to a server perfectly fine on a 1.8.9 client, but when I try to join a server on 1.9, it gives me a io.netty.channel.ConnectExceptionTimeout: connection timed out
Please help.
