Dog stuck staring at dirt because skeleton is under it

I just tamed two dogs. I lost them in the woods and when I went back for them they are staring at the ground. There is a skeleton clanking around in a cave under the ground and instead of following me they are just standing there staring at the dirt where the skellie is located. I appreciate them killing skellies, but it seems weird that they'd detect a skeleton in a sealed cave underground, and choose him (or here) over me.
