Minecraft is killing my computer...

I was happy to see 1.9 was out and when I go on it it took about 10 min. before I even saw Main Menu... Then when I go on a world I see it for a few secs then it crashes and for the next hour my computer lags and I can't do ANYTHING! Mojang please fix...
