Huge Texture Problems!

I downloaded the 1.9 version today to see all the new features. The problem is, as my chunks are loading the texture of grass constantly changes, the only mobs I see are cows, pigs, skeletons and creepers. Nothing, seriously nothing else is showing. I started a new single player world to test out a few things and those 5 items are the only things I see. I see shadows for some mobs but textures are everywhere for the "missing" mobs walking around. I waited a while to see if maybe it was just loading slow but nothing was showing signs of improvement. No crashes with 1.9 as I've been seeing from others, just nothing loads properly in the game.
