Going into fullscreen and then disabling fullscreen disables making Minecraft window bigger

Upon toggling fullscreen mode, I wanted to change some settings around, so I disabled fullscreen mode. After disabling it, I found that I couldn't make the minecraft window bigger so it fits the whole desktop space. It was stuck as a tiny window in the middle of my screen. I'm using Windows, but it may also affect Mac OS.
