the game is acting weird

so my friend and i were trying to play minecraft on share play because i didnt have the game but when he started up a world the inventory bar just kept scrolling sideways as we moved and when we pressed buttons on the d-pad it would open up menus and sometimes we would try to move sideways and we would just drift away
