Turning the end portal lava pool into obsidian bypasses ender dragon

Steps to repro:
1. Use a bucket of water to turn the lava pool under the end portal into obsidian.
2. Add the last eye of ender to activate the portal
3. Use the portal

• notice you're teleported into a new end area and there's no ender dragon in sight. I was actually teleported into the middle of some end stone and had to dig out to avoid suffocation, but I ended up right next to a city. After looting the city, I can't find the island that has the ender dragon and the obsidian pillars. I've traveled hundreds of blocks in a few directions and am getting bored trying to find it. I had my game backed up to try out 1.9 my first time through, I used the portal normally and was taken to an obsidian platform to fight the ender dragon who killed me pretty easily, then I noticed this the second time through.
