8 layers of snow cover looks identical to a snow block, but redstone replaces it.

What I tried:
Place redstone dust atop 8 layers of snow cover.

What I expected was:
for 8 layers of snow cover to act like a snow block, and receive the redstone on top of it.

What actually happened was:
It was destroyed, and redstone was placed where it was.
