Block update issues with cocoa beans

While trying to make a cocoa bean farm, I found out that when a cocoa bean is planted on a tree, it does not cause a block update, it only updates the surrounding blocks when the bean is broken. I tested this again by trying to update a floating water source, and a bud switch, neither worked.
