The escape key doesn't work in Minecraft when Photoshop is open

Minecraft was working fine. with the aforementioned setup. I then opened up Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. The escape key did not work in Minecraft until I closed Photoshop. Once I had closed it, the escape key resumed working normally.
