Flickering screen on Minecraft 1.8.8 on Ubuntu

Steps to recreate:

1. Use Linux
2. Play Minecraft

Basically, when I launch the game, the game will sometimes flicker, sometimes so frequently it looks like it'll cause seizures. Is there anyway to fix this mess? :/
