New chunks don't render until they are updated

New chunks (outside of spawn chunks) don't render unless I break/place a block onto them. I do not know if these were already generated chunks or new chunks but I do know that it only affects chunks that don't render as soon as you join the world (spawn chunks I think. Or maybe it's decided by render distance, not sure). I can see the hit boxes for blocks, see the mobs and fall in holes etc, just not actually see the blocks.
