Pressing "Q" drops entire stack on occasion without addition of "Ctrl"

I tried to share some carrots with my friend. Upon pressing "Q", the entire stack dropped. The reason I believe this is a glitch is because it doesn't happen in versions such as 1.4/1.9 snapshots.
