Player doesn't burn in lava

I'm currently building a castle, and in that castle I have a lava pool. I switched to survival to test something and ended up falling into the lava pool. I only received fall damage though, and it showed the character burning, but it didn't deal me and other damage. (screenshot doesn't show it well, but it's the best I could do)
