Lava doesnt turn into stone or obsidian!

So I was playing around in my world today with some lava and stuff. I first off made a kind of thing which will spill lava and make stone. But then after that, I tried putting lava underwater for no reason other than fun cause I was bored. But then it glitched and didnt turn into stone or obsidian! It was just staying there, in the water. I havent placed anything around the lava, but there was full of water for sure. I tried going in gamemode 0, swimming down in the glitched lava. Nothing happened, other than losing some oxygen without I can see the oxygen! That's right. I couldn't see the oxygen bar. Well, that was all.
