Flying above y=255 caused the game to crash

Steps to reproduce
1. Set own gamemode to creative mode
2. Double-tap space to go into fly mode
3. Hold space to ascend

What I expected to happen
I expected to be able to go up infinitely (or at least until y=32,000,000)

What actually happened
At y~255.77, the game crashed.
