Barrier particles doesn't show up when barrier is held in off-hand

Title explains.

What I expect to happen:
Barrier particles will show up.

What happened:
It didn't show up.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open a world with cheats enabled.
2. Do the following command: /give @p barrier.
3. Place a barrier in the world.
4. Put it in the off-hand.
