Oak stairs placed before exiting game dissapear

I had placed some Oak Stairs as a roof for a house I was building, I logged out (hit the Save & Quit button) and re-opened my world to improperly rendered lighting where the Stairs were and no blocks.

I placed some stairs on Leaves and some on Oak Planks to see if it made a difference, Which it did not. (Screenshot)
