Water not visible through Nether Portal

When looking through portal blocks, water is not visible.

In the screenshots you can see both water and lava while looking through a portal and while looking around it (lava does stay visible)

This might be a feature, but there is nothing written about it in the wiki.
Nice way to look underwater though.
