Single Player,s Save And quit to tidal button causes minecraft to stop responding and or crash 1.8.1 and up

after playing on any of my single player worlds when im done i (like everyone) hit save and quit to tidal.
But instead of sending me back to the main menu, minecraft stops responding and in some cases crashes
Very counter productive if i need to switch between worlds to copy over things i have built
