Color changing when combining shields with banners (tested only with yellow)

What i expected to happen was:
I was creating a yellow shield with the proper recipe, and i crafted a yellow banner with a green bordure and a lime creeper face, to combine it with the shield to make it look cooler.
What has happened:
The color has changed from yellow to black.
