End portal invisible from below

What I expected to happen was...:
The end portal should have been visible from all angles

What actually happened was...:
when below the end portal and looking up there is nothing there

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Find stronghold portal/make end portal with frames
2. Activate the end portal
3. Go below the portal and look up
