Ender pearls causing server crashes and restarts also corrupting chunks

What I expected to happen was...:
Ender pearl continues once the other dimension loads.

What actually happened was...:
Server crashed and restarted. If a player was loading the chunks near the portal when the server crashed it would corrupt the chunk containing the portal and recreate it.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Throw an ender pearl through a nether portal
