If an entity goes through the nether portal it dissapears

When I tried pushing my dog or cat through a nether portal, they just dissapear. They cannot be found in the nether or the overworld. When I first had this problem I thought it was a single time bug, so I tested it by pushing a villager in the portal, he also dissapeared. and the same happens when i throw an item in the portal
