Item enchantments take up the full slot on main hand, but sometimes act normally in the off hand

In both survival and creative mode, items that are enchanted have the "sparkle" effect (in the gui) appear through the whole item slot. However, this does not always occur when using the off hand slot. I found a few times that the off hand enchant would look normal.
