Eggs Spawn Chickens on me rather than at egg throw location

I had a bunch of chickens in a pen with dirt wall on one side to throw eggs at and get more chickens. The baby chickens used to spawn on/half in/next to the wall; now they were spawning on my location. I was standing several blocks away from the wall the eggs were being thrown at.
