Items don't stack and go minus in secondary hand

When I was building with blocks in my secondary hand I noticed they didn't stack back in the original stack when you break and pick them back up.
Just now I discovered when using wheat in the secondary hand, it can go minus and also doesn't take an item out the other stacks in your inventory which means free items!
