End rod floating?

I was playing around in the new end dungeons, finding out the awesome new physics of the end rod. I accidentally broke the block holding up all the end rods, yet they didn't break and continued to float. I am not sure if this is a bug or not, if it isn't that would be pretty cool but at the same time a little weird considering their torch like style and structure near the bottom. Sorry if this isn't a bug but it didn't seem like something that would stay. Thanks for your time and keep up the amazing work with the 1.9 update!
