Alex Model skin issue

When i transferred my skin to the Alex model, half of my skin is displayed black.

i downloaded the alex template and copied my original (steve model) skin onto the alex template.
Then i uploaded the skin as .png to minecraft and set the model to look as alex.

When i checked in-game it only displayed half of the skin.

is this a bug or did i make the template wrong?
