Disappearing Cake

I was using my anvil and have been using it for a while. I had a cake placed on top of it. I know that they break but I wasn't expecting it (I was applying a protection IV and Infinity I book to diamond pants if that matters). But when it did break the cake disappeared. Not sure why this was the case and I was expecting the cake to sit in the block where it was placed, or to drop into a collectible item, not entirely disappear. A little bug, but thought I would report it.
