Stone Monster Egg in Adventure Mode

Expected to be able to mine a stone block with a pickaxe in adventure mode. Block was in Extreme Hills Biome. After switching gamemode, it was determined that it was indeed a Monster Spawn Egg. What tool should a Monster Spawn Egg be destroyed with?
