Right click and left click issues

The first time i play the game, i can't even open a door even though i know how to. Also, when I join multiplayer games, it says to right click, right? I did it and nothing happened. I tried it several times, but still nothing. I also can't even place blocks, but i can only destroy blocks with my mouse. That's it.
