Gray redstone particles when falling on

What I expected to happen was...:
Red particles will come out

What actually happened was...:
Gray particles came out

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Dig a 1x1x1 hole
2. Place redstone in hole
3. Jump on the edge of the hole
