Not able to break blocks in Minecraft PC

I can not destroy blocks in Minecraft. It is not a hardware issue, but rather a software issue as I was able to do so the last time I played. I checked my mouse and it works on other applications. But when I attempt to destroy blocks, it doesn't work. Please assist. Thanks.
