Getting error "Failed to login: Authenication servers are currently down for maintenance" even though servers are up.

Every time I attempt to login to a multiplayer server I get the message "Failed to login: Authentication servers are currently down for maintenance" I've checked and everything seems to be up and running according to you guys (Mojang) and my friends can connect fine.
