Switching game mode back from creative causes problems

I play in Survival mode with no cheats. I wanted some friends to play with me for a while so we opened it up to multiplayer with cheats allowed. We changed gamemodes while we were playing. After they left, I switched back to Survival mode (from Creative mode). Now I can't use the enchantment table or tame wild animals properly. I can access the enchanting table but there are no available enchantments. I can feed the wild animals and they "fall in love" but do not become loyal (they just act as if they were not tamed)
