Crash of versions under 1.8

What I expected to happen was...:
I played on version 1.8 and I was really enjoy playing on this version but I wanted to play on version 1.7 and i thought that when i click on ,, singleplayer'' or ,,multiplayer'' my minecraft was working..

What actually happened was...:
And then i click on ,,singleplayer'' my minecraft crashed

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start the launcher
2. Choose version 1.7.4
3. Click ,, Play ''
4. Choose singleplayer
5. Create new world

So, Do i have to play only on 1.8 version?
