Chickens not laying eggs

Problem was first noticed while playing on a modified version of Minecraft via Forge. After problem was verified in creative mode, the player attempted to play on default ("Vanilla") Minecraft, using the most recent update. Chickens will not lay eggs in any environment.

Sidenote: this was noticed only after capes for the promotion of "Scrolls" were removed.
