Lan World Skin problem

When i am playing mine craft with my brother we go on lan worlds all the time but when ever we play the owner of the lan worlds skin does not show up, it will show up as a steve or alex. i have tried re uploading it but it still makes no difference and when i get a different skin it still does not work. is there any way you could fix this
