Walking onto lily pad from land under 2m gap impossible

A lily pad with a dirt block placed directly above it with a 2m gap, leaving enough room to stand under, is impossible to walk onto from a dirt block placed next to the lily pad. The picture illustrates a position in which you cannot move.

A solution to this is either to walk from a lily pad with nothing above it onto a lily pad with a roof,
or
walk from a dirt block with a roof onto a lily pad with a roof.

Both of these do work. Also it works just fine walking off the lily pad onto the dirt block once you are underneath the lily pad's roof.
