Trapped chests and repeaters

When a repeater is placed on side of a trapped chest (not front or back) and pointed away with redstone wire connected to it going in a U and down one block.It turns at the block behind the block below the chesh and facing perpendicular with the back of the chest the signal only travels 4 blocks.
