Rabbits unload earlier than other passive mobs

Noticed this with 14w34c but I can't guarantee it wasn't happening before it.
The images show the same two panes with cows and rabbits, the one with rabbits appears empty until I take a couple of steps forward.

Cows don't seem to disappear even though they are at the same distance from me as the rabbits
