killer rabbits pursue players farther than 4 blocks

My understanding is that the pursuit range of a killer rabbit is 4 blocks. However, this does not seem to be the case, at least in this snapshot. The rabbit seems to pursue the player at a much farther distance.

How to reproduce:

1. Create a creative super flat redstone ready world (with cheats). Difficulty should be set to Peaceful or resistance effect should be in place so that the bunny doesn't kill you.
2. /summon Rabbit ~ ~ ~

{RabbitType:99}

3. /tp @e 0 ~ 0
4. /tp ~ ~ ~10
This will put you 10 blocks south of the bunny.
5. /gamemode 0
6. The bunny should immediately start attacking you, even at 10 blocks away.
