Unable to select Pre-existing Worlds

My system is a Windows 8 PC. The issue is I am unable to select a pre-existing world although they show up on the list. The only options I am given is "Create New World" and "Cancel" whenever I go to Single Player. Touchscreen mode is off, as I do not have touchscreen capabilities. I have Java 1.8 downloaded, and running the program. Please help.
