PE Update won't allow multiplayer on pre-existing worlds

Three of us have PE for iPads, and before the .9x updates, we could all play together over the local wireless. Now any new player freezes up when loading the world. The host can still play, and to the host it appears that the player has joined, but they are not there. Is there a fix in the works?
