Levers pop off when switched on slabs

Levers pop off when switched on slabs.

What I expected to happen was the lever to change state and emit a redstone current

What actually happened was the lever poped off when the state was changed

1. Put a slab on the upper part of a block
2. Put a lever on the slab
3. Switch the lever.
