high view distance causes insanely trippy vision

when i increase my view distance above 10 in-game (at least while in multiplayer) my vision goes completely bonkers. see attachment for details cuz i really don't know how to describe it any better.

What I expected to happen was...:
increased view distance

What actually happened was...:
the world seemed to break, i couldn't tell where i was anymore and everything was chopped up and i could see things underground and behind me and to the side all at once.

Steps to Reproduce:
start game
go somewhere new
turn view distance up to 21
look around
