Fire doesn't disappear when block beneath it gets destroyed

I went to The End and I destroyed the Ender Crystals. There was fire left. I destroyed the obsidian block where the fire was on and the fire didn't disappear. Oh and bedrock doesn't spawn in the obsidian pillars anymore? Is that a bug or is it on purpose?
