Enchanted fishing rod not reeling in items 30-40% of the time

The enchanted fishing rod I caught with an unenchanted fishing rod does not reel in items 30-40% of the time. When I right click after an item is "on the line" the bobber/line disappears and the reeling animation glitches back to a resting un-cast position. This is happening in Realms. I checked my connection and it doesn't look like that's causing the problem.
